Valentines Day Service – for those in love!!!! (6pm - 14th February)
This year Valentines Day falls on a Sunday, and to help make this special we are holding a Valentines Day service at 6.00pm on 14th Feb. The idea is that people can come to the service at 6pm, and then go on to their own celebration or restaurant afterwards. The service will be about 45 mins, so you could easily make a 7.30/8.00pm dinner date. This will be a new service and will include an optional renewal of marriage vows for those who would like to do this, and other opportunities for those who are not married or want to express their feelings in a different way. Do join us and spread the word!
New Children's Leader - We are very pleased to announce that Jo Chipperfield has been appointed as Children's Leader. She will be initially be focusing on re-launching Sunday School to make it as appealing as possible for all children between the ages of 3 and 11 while also strengthening our ties with the local schools and playgroups. This should really boost the focus on the younger children and will also greatly assist the efforts of Becca and the youth team. If you would like more information about the new Sunday School, please contact Jo on 01252 794 416 or catch her before or after one of the Sunday School sessions.
Sunday School helpers - As mentioned above, Sunday School is changing and Jo is looking for helpers to assist with the sessions with the 3-11 year olds. No experience is necessary and a plan for each session and resources is provided in advance so you won't need to come up with ideas of what to do. Do you think you could offer to help a couple of times a year? If so please call Jo for more information (details above) - it will be greatly appreciated.
A Passion For life - This three month project was launched recently. It will help the young people of the parish refresh and inspire they way they think about the church, take a fresh look at the Christian message, join with other youth groups and the community as a whole and assist them in growing in faith and becoming stronger Christians. We pray for Becca and the other leaders and for this exciting project to fulfil its huge potential.

URGENT Appeal - for the first time in recent memory, the parish is set to end the year with a deficit budget. With a drop in Planned Giving of around £10,000 this year, and an increase in repairs to the church of around £11,000, we are about to lose £10,000 this year. Please help us retrieve this situation and enable us to break-even this year...please donate anything you can. Either drop a donation into the Parish Office or see one of the Churchwardens at any of our services. It will be very gratefully received. Thank you.
Village Discos - We will be holding a village disco on Saturday 27th February and one the previous evening for the village young people. Put the dates in your diary now for what promises to be another superb event. Click here for details. Tickets are on sale now!
New series of Evening services - We're introducing an exciting new series of evening services throughout 2010. Themed "Directions Please!" we are delighted to welcome a number of visiting speakers to talk about topical and interesting "life" subjects. Don't miss them...mark the 3rd Sunday in every month at 6.30pm in your diary NOW! See here for more details. The first service in January was a great success with a talk on euthanasia and assisted suicide from the Rt Rev Christopher Herbert. Inspirational! Don't miss the rest of the series.

Lent Groups - Clashes of arms: promises of peace.
For many of us, if we are honest, life is sometimes a struggle. Everything may appear fine and dandy on the surface, but underneath it’s a different story: there are relationships which have broken down, and moral choices to make where we truly do not know what to do. Sometimes we face issues which are simply beyond us, and at other times, questions about what our lives are for, continue to nag away.
During Lent, some of these questions, (which all of us face, whether we have a faith or not), will be explored in a series of talks and meditations to be led by the Right Revd. Dr Christopher Herbert.
He will be using images from the works of great artists to throw light on the biblical readings which are set for Lent. Those readings are all about clashes between Jesus and the ideas of his own day, but they also point forward to means of resolution and to the discovery of peace of mind, heart and soul.
The dates are Wed 24th Feb, Tue 2nd Mar, Wed 10th Mar, Wed 17th Mar, Wed 24th Mar.
Lent begins on Wednesday 17th February, which is Ash Wednesday and Chris will be taking the Ash Wednesday Service at 8pm at St. James.

Assistant Youth Worker - Ben Palmer is currently in his gap year and has kindly agreed to give five months' work to St James. As an Assistant Youth Worker he will be a great boost to Becca and the rest of the youth team. We owe Ben our thanks for this commitment and look forward to seeing more of him around the parish.
