St James has been set up on easyfundraising.org.uk to earn extra donations from registered users who shop online. It doesn't cost anything to use and a percentage of what is spent online is donated to St James by easyfundraising. So if you shop online please go to easyfundraising.org.uk and register and then use their website to access the online retailers who you shop with. It is very easy to use, costs absolutely nothing and raises money for the church. So there's no reason not to use it! For more information use the menu bar on the left of the screen or click here.
Easter Services and Clive's Easter message. Please see the menu on the right of the page to find Clive's Easter message and also the details of all that is happening over the Easter period.
Listen to the New Testament in 40 days. The Bible Society has produced 40 separate dramatic readings which cover the whole of the New Testament. The audio files are free to download and form part of an engaging and simple listening plan. We will also be holding weekly groups over the course of Lent to help us get the most out of the listening experience. Please visit the Bible Society website to download the programme - www.biblesociety.org.uk/ygtt
Lent House Groups Come to our weekly groups over the course of the month to get the most out of the listening experience mentioned above. There is a daytime and an evening group available. Sign up sheets are at the back of church.
Bishop's Lent Call Literature about this year's Lent Call from the Bishop of Guildford is available at the back of church. Please do support this worthy cause.
Easter Lilies If you wish to donate to the Easter Lily Fund then please place cheques to St James Flower Guild in a marked envelope and give it to Clive or Marry Parratt before 17th March.
St James Strategy Day In light of changes in society and in our church, the PCC will be discussing a strategy for renewal of the church in Rowledge at a strategy day in May. All other parishioners are welcome to join them for all or part of the day - Saturday 4th May from 10am to 4pm in the church centre. Please complete the sign up sheet at the back of church so that we can get a feel for likely numbers.
APCM Our annual church meeting will be at 8pm on 17th April in the church centre. All are welcome.
Church Army Representative The Church Army would like someone in the parish to act as "rep" for them in our church, just to be a point of contact with whom they communicate. If you would be interested in this simple role then please see Clive.
Talk on euthanasia postponed - now 21st April at 6:30pm Sadly the talk by the Rt Rev Chris Herbert about euthanasia and assisted dying had to be postponed to due the bad weather in January. Chris is an excellent speaker so please come along to hear his thoughts on this difficult subject when we hold it in April.
Electoral Roll - VERY IMPORTANT Every five years we are required to renew the electoral roll. So we need everybody to fill in a one of the forms at the back of church. It is very quick and simple to do so please do help us with this task.
Confirmation - 11th June If anybody is interested in being confirmed by the Bishop of Guildford at St James in June then please see Clive or Becca.
Help us to keep in touch with you If you have an email address then please either fill in the list at the back of church or send Clive or one of the churchwardens an email. This will help us to keep in touch with you to update you on what's happening at St James. We promise not to spam you will excessive emails or to ever provide your details to anybody else.
St James Flower Guild There are many empty places on the flower rota which is at the back of church. Please take time to fill some places and persuade a friend to do the same. New volunteers are always very warmly welcomed, but please add your contact details.
Rewiring Appeal The electrical cabling in church is old, lights keep blowing and the fiitings are failing. We are therefore about to start the process of applying for permission to rewire the church and install new lighting. This will costs around £30,000 and so we are launching an appeal to raise enough money to cover the work so that we other areas of church life don't have to be scaled back to compensate. Please do help us with this. It is essential work that we have to do for safety reasons and we really don't want the day-to-day work at St James to be cut to cover it. Please could you use the gift aid envelopes in church and write "rewiring" on them before dropping them off with Clive or the churchwardens.
Holy Land Pilgrimage 2013/14 We are considering running another pilgrimage to the Holy Land at the end of this year or early next year. If you are interested then please let Clive or Tony know so that they can get a rough feel for likely numbers to see whether the trip is viable.
Giving for Life We are thinking about giving to the local church and considering our attitude to giving and our response to God in this important area of our lives. It costs over £17,500 per month to run St James' and we are entirely reliant on the generosity of the church members. We receive no money from the Church of England, the government, the council or anybody else. Do think about our 3% challenge ... can you commit to paying 3% of your take home pay to the church? Speak to a churchwarden or Mike Randall if you want more details.
